Horizon Health Network is seeking a Cardiac Surgeon to join our collegial and collaborative team at the New Brunswick Heart Center (NBHC) in beautiful Saint John, New Brunswick. This role is being offered as a locum opportunity.
The successful candidate will join five cardiac surgeons supported by seven Nurse Associates in a collaborative Heart Team offering advanced programs such as TAVI, MitraClip, Lead Extraction, and cardiogenic shock management.

Incentives & Remuneration
A nationally competitive Academic Funding Plan compensates New Brunswick Heart Centre cardiac surgeons for clinical excellence, medical education, and administration. The successful applicant will be compensated for their clinical work and general contribution to the department.
Successful applicants may be eligible to receive the following:
- Urban recruitment incentive of $50,000.00 with a 2-year return of service.
- Moving expense reimbursement is also available.
What you will do
These responsibilities are commensurate with providing cardiac surgery care for the province of New Brunswick. Additional duties may be assigned from time to time as may be necessary to the operation of Horizon Health Network:
- Patient care is shared equally among the other cardiac surgeons
- Daily inpatient rounds
- Operating sessions as assigned by the Division of Cardiac Surgery
- In-patient consultations
- Hospital-based clinics
- Involvement in resident and medical student teaching
- Participate in medical practice that is compatible with the Health Authority’s mission, values and strategic directions.
Who you are
- A medical degree is required.
- Certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Canada in Cardiac Surgery.
- Candidates must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick.
- Proficiency in English is required. Bilingual skills would be considered an asset.
- In accordance with immigration requirements, preference will be given to Canadian citizens and Permanent Residents of Canada.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and team-building skills.
- Good attendance and work record.
- Subspecialty training in structural heart intervention and/or minimally invasive valve surgery is an asset. The NBHC is the sole tertiary cardiac care centre for New Brunswick and also serves Prince Edward Island, performing approximately 1,000 cardiac surgeries annually across the full spectrum of care.
