Description
The Section of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery within the Edmonton Department of Cardiac Sciences in Alberta Health Services, in partnership with the University of Alberta, invites applications of a highly skilled and experienced Pediatric and Adult Congenital Cardiac Surgeon to join our dynamic team in Edmonton. This role will focus on providing advanced cardiac surgical care for pediatric patients and adults with congenital heart conditions. The successful candidate will contribute to clinical services, academic teaching, and research within one of Canada's leading heart programs.
Our current team consists of three surgeons, with two dedicated faculty members primarily handling the clinical workload. This addition will help balance the demands of our high-volume program, enhance patient care, and support ongoing innovation in congenital cardiac surgery. The position offers opportunities for collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, including cardiologists, anesthetists, intensivists, and allied health professionals, in a state-of-the-art facility serving Western Canada through the Western Canadian Children’s Heart Network.
Responsibilities
Perform complex pediatric and adult congenital cardiac surgeries, including mechanical circulatory support and transplant-related procedures. Provide pre- and post-operative care in inpatient and outpatient settings. Participate in on-call rotations (approximately 1:3- 1:4) Contribute to the Western Canadian Children's Heart Network and adult congenital heart programs. Engage in teaching and mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows through the University of Alberta's Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. Conduct or collaborate on research initiatives in congenital cardiac surgery, with access to dedicated research support and funding opportunities. Support quality improvement projects and program development to optimize patient outcomes. Qualifications
Medical degree (MD) from an accredited institution. Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC) in Cardiac Surgery, or equivalent. Subspecialty training and certification in Pediatric Cardiac Surgery and/or Adult Congenital Heart Surgery. Preferably Minimum of 2-5 years of post-fellowship experience in high-volume congenital cardiac surgery programs. Eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA). Demonstrated expertise in minimally invasive techniques, hybrid procedures, mechanical circulatory support and adult-Congenital surgery is an asset. Strong commitment to academic excellence, with a track record of publications and/or presentations preferred. Excellent communication, leadership, and teamwork skills. Compensation and Benefits
