Company History

Dixie County Emergency Medical Services was incorporated in 1977 as a Basic Life Support service with one ambulance and two Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) on duty at any given time.

In the Mid 1980's the service upgraded it's level of care to Advanced Life Support (ALS), replacing one of the EMTs with a Paramedic.

Currently, we staff a total of three ALS ambulances and two ALS Engines working out of three rescue stations and two Fire Station in the County. All ALS ambulances are staffed with one paramedic and one EMT at minimum. Engine 21 is staffed with a Firefighter/Paramedic and a Firefighter/EMT. Engine 21 also operates as Rescue 4 when the other 3 primary rescue units are busy. Squad One is staffed with one Firefighter/Paramedic which is also the shift Lieutenant.
