Company History
Since its founding in October 1934, the Firm's guiding principle has been to provide exemplary legal services and counsel in a timely and cost-efficient manner. This standard has been the hallmark of the Firm throughout its history. As a defense Firm, we partner with our clients by carefully listening to their litigation goals so that we can meet or exceed our client’s expectations.
Founding named partner Miller Walton, a native of Georgia and member of a prominent Georgia family whose ancestors included a signer of the Declaration of Independence and the Secretary of State of the Territory of Florida (prior to Florida's statehood in 1845) for whom Walton County Florida is named, established his law practice in Ft. Lauderdale in 1924. He eventually partnered with Lawrence Casey and, together, they founded Casey & Walton in Miami in October 1934. The Firm is presently the second-oldest law Firm in continuous existence in Miami-Dade County Florida.
Over the years, numerous attorneys have enhanced the Firm with their legal knowledge, experience, and expertise including named partners William C. Lantaff (who served as a Miami Beach municipal judge in the late 1930s and as a U.S. congressman from Dade County Florida in the early 1950s), Laurence A. Schroeder and Samuel 0. ("Kit) Carson, both of whom were prominent trial attorneys in Miami. Other prominent former partners include Carey A. Randall who served in the United States Marine Corps prior to, during, and after World War II and who achieved the rank of Major General, and C. Clyde Atkins, who served 33 years as a United States District Judge in Miami and for whom the C. Clyde Atkins Federal Courthouse is named.
The distinguished roster of the Firm's attorneys over the years includes members of the State and Federal judiciaries, members of the Florida Legislature, Presidents of The Florida Bar and local Bar Associations, and one of the founders of Baptist Hospital of Miami (Mr. Walton.) Over the years, the Firm's partners and associates have been active in their communities in various philanthropic and charitable endeavors.
The Firm's focus has always been a dedication to skillful and ethical representation of our clients, a tradition which continues to this day and will carry on into the future. The Firm has long fostered a collegial "family-oriented" atmosphere which benefits its members and staff as well as its numerous and varied clients.
